The development costs are not
known currently as the Canary is still a prototype. However, it is possible to
asses its business value created
through productivity, structure of competition and benefits to the customers.
Most people see the traditional smoke-detector as a nuisance that beeps
incessantly in cases of a non-emergency and so as a result, the detectors are
disabled or batteries are not replaced when they’re needed. The Canary could lessen the number of 2,500 people who
die from fires each year as a result of defective fire detectors.
The Canary would also be able to lessen the number of deaths as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning. If in the event of a fire occurring while an individual is not home, the Canary would be able to alert the individual through a smartphone. This could prevent and/or reduce the damage from a fire related situation.
